I was born in Scotland and moved to the US over 20 years ago, settling here in Evanston with my then-young family. Questioning, observing, and preparing for the unexpected are integral to my work as a research and development engineer specializing in high-voltage equipment. Over time, I learned to use these same practices to communicate my experience and frame my questions through my photography. What started, many years ago, as a way to tell stories, has evolved into a mindful practice, an immersion in my surroundings, through which I hope to reveal insights about our shared spaces.
My images are of everyday scenes, presenting new information to viewers and inviting them to reflect on it and ask questions. I enjoy presenting familiar landscapes from a slightly different perspective and like to do the same in my portraits of people, capturing their attitudes and expressions as they experience their environment.
Ever the engineer, I find that my most satisfying images are those in which I found answers to my own questions, and I hope they inform your inquiry as you seek answers to yours.
